History of Lamborghini

Lamborghini was founded by Italian manufacturing magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1963. It started with an objective to produce a refined grand touring car that can offer established marques such as Ferrari. Lamborghini released its first models, such as the 350 GT, in the mid-1960ss. Their vehicles were known for power, refinement, and comfort. In 1966, Lamborghini achieved wide acclaim for the Miura sports coupe, which had a rear mid-engine and a rear-wheel drive as a standard layout.

During its first ten years in the business, Lamborghini proliferated. However, their sales decreased during the worldwide financial downturn and the oil crisis in 1973. This resulted in Ferruccio Lamborghini to sell ownership of the company to Rene Leimer and Georges-Henri Rossetti in 1974. However, four years later, Lamborghini went bankrupt, and that’s why it was placed in the receivership of brothers Patrick and Jean-Claude Mimran in 1980. The brothers purchased Lamborghini out of receivership four years later, and they focused on the company’s expansion. Lamborghini’s model line expanded under the management of the Mimran brothers, and it was the time when they produced the Countach.

In 1987, the Mimran brothers decided to sell Lamborghini to the Chrysler Corporation. After that, Chrysler agreed to replace the Countach with the Diablo. However, seven years later, Chrysler decided to sell Lamborghini to a Malaysian investment group named Mycom Setdco and an Indonesian group called V’Power corporation. Four years then, the two companies decided to sell Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group, where it was placed under the control of the company’s Audi division.

Under the Volkswagen group, Lamborghini released new model lines and products that showcased the brand’s portfolio. Volkswagen saw an increase in productivity in Lamborghini. But when the worldwide financial crisis struck in the late 2000s, Lamborghini sales decreased to nearly 50 percent.
